Printer Installation

Version 1.1

This is related to each individual printer. When items are selected in an order, they are sent to the printer assigned to it. IE: A liquor item will only print to the bar printer and not the kitchen printer. When an order is paid for, the customer receipt is printed locally on the receipt printer. These printers can be used interchangeably for printing receipts and/or kitchen tickets.

Receipt Printer (Local Printer)

This printer handles print jobs for customer’s receipts. This is generally an Epson TM-T88 series or any Epson compatible printer. This type of printer uses thermal paper which generates heat to print an image.

Front of the printer                                                          Back of the printer

Remote printer (Network Printer)

This printer handles print jobs for all orders in Ordyx (i.e. Kitchen, Bar). This is generally an Epson U-220b series or any Epson compatible printer. This type of printer uses impact paper which utilizes an ink ribbon to print an image.

Network VS Redirected through Touchscreen (parallel, serial, USB)

Kitchen printers are usually connected to the internal network of the restaurant and assigned a static IP address.

In other cases, they can be configured to work on a local printer which is attached to a POS terminal. If there is a printer with a parallel, serial, or USB connection that is being used for printing food or beverage items at the terminal, the terminal must stay on for the printer to work. The printer will not work if the terminal is off.

***Mac Users: All printers are connected to the network using a standard CAT5 cable. This is due to Apple’s equipment not providing a parallel port and the installation process will be more flexible when configuring the printer to print receipts or kitchen tickets. ***

Serial Port (COM)                                    Parallel Port                               USB

Installation of a new USB printer

Search for the Brand and Model of the printer (usually found at the back of the printer or underneath)

Then, install the proper driver, on this page you can find the latest drivers: http://download.epson-biz.com/modules/pos/

Run the driver, select the Port Type, check the Default Printer, Save Settings and a pop up will appear to perform a Test Print

Once you finished sending a Test Print from Windows, go to Back Office to Setup/Terminals and choose the terminal that you need to configure the printer on, in this example will be the TS1.  Then fill in Printer Connection and Printer URL with the proper information:

Printer URL: You can find the name of the printer in the Printer Properties; it must be the same name.

Then open Ordyx and go to Admin/System Status and send a Test from the Receipt Printer

Installation of a new Serial (COM) or Parallel printer

When installing a printer with this type of connections, no software needs to be installed.

You need to Add Printer, then Add local printer

When a printer is connected to the terminal by Pararell (LPT) or Serial (COM) it needs to be added as a local printer and for the port we need to choose LPT always. This is applicable for both connections. In case the printer is serial we ask for the port and baud rate to enter on the BOH only.

Then choose Generic/Generic/Text Only.  After you finish the installation, send a printer test from Windows, then go to Back Office, Admin/System Status and send a Receipt Printer.

If it is not working, you might need to go to Windows, delete the Generic Printer and send again the Printer Test

Installation of a Remote printer (Network Printer)

To install the Epson printer detection utility if the utility is not currently installed on the machine.

Open a web browser. In the address bar, navigate to the following link secure.ordyx.com/public

Then go to Epson Printer Util.zip

Unzip the file to the same location and open the EpsonTMNet WinConfig utility.

Click on the search button.

If the printer is connected to the same router as the computer, the printers IP address will display, double click on the IP address to change it.

Click on the TCP/IP tab.

Click in the IP address text boxes and change the numbers to match what is in the back office, click ok and click Yes when displayed the prompt below

The utility will send the command to the printer to change its network address.

Verify the change has taken effect sending a Test Print from Windows. Then login into Oryx on a terminal and run a test print from Admin/System status/Kitchen or Bar Printer.
